Setting

How is the setting significant to crime dramas that you have seen?
TV crime dramas are very specific in the area that are set. This is so it's easier for the audience to sense what kind of things that particular crime drama includes. Audiences like us automatically associate certain places to certain types of stories we think may occur in the drama.
In CSI: Miami, the setting is very glamorous and sunny and this is what audiences like us associate Miami with. It is also a very popular area to live so the audience would imagine a lot of crimes taking place there and not just night crimes. Places like Miami are more open to where and what the crimes are because of the people that are usually associated to it and this decided which audiences watch the crime drama or not.
Similarly, in Hawaii Five-O the setting is very glamorous, but less popular. However, the crimes are still very varied which attracts audiences to its mystery.
In crime dramas such as Luther, the setting is very different compared to usual crime dramas. Luther is set in London which audiences usually associate with gritty crimes so if these are the type of crimes they would like to watch then they'd pick a drama like this.

White Chapel Review

Baby-sitter Sasha Lowood is murdered by a man dressed as the mythical Bogey-Man at the same time that Calum Mantus, who killed his family in a manner identical to Sasha's slaying, escapes from a secure unit The police search Mantus's old house, which feels haunted and where there is a poster of actor Lon Chaney in the film 'London After Dark'. According to unit head Dr Mortlake this was Mantus's favourite film and traditionally drove its audiences mad. After psychiatrist Morgan Lamb survives an attack by the Bogey Man a masked man is seen toting a gun. However he is not Mantus but an innocent who has been set up.
